That’s why we created Rit ColorStay Dye Fixative, an easy-to-use solution designed to lock in color, keeping your fabrics looking their best and brightest for the long run. It reduces bleeding, fading and even enhances the color of your project. Works best on cotton, linen, rayon, ramie or fabric blends that contain these fibers. Use after dyeing to lock in color. Or use it immediately after a tie-dye or dip-dye project to prevent dye from bleeding into white areas. It is even effective on commercially dyed fabrics. Whatever your purpose, Rit ColorStay Dye Fixative assures you will get lasting color for the long run.

Tip: Can also be used on already dyed commercially manufactured fabrics. Choose your method: For general applications, use the sink or bucket method. For maximum effectiveness, use the stovetop method. If you are working with small items or are looking to apply Rit ColorStay dye fixative to a small or partially dyed area, use the spray method. For applying to large items, use the washing machine method. Sink or bucket method: For every pound of dry fabric (i.e. 2 adult large t-shirts), use 1/2 bottle (4 ozs.) With 3 gallons of the hottest water safe for fabric. Shake well before using. Wear rubber gloves. Add hot water to a plastic bucket or stainless steel sink. Ideally, water temperature should be 140 degrees F or greater. Add Rit ColorStay dye fixative. Mix well. Add fabric. Stir consistently for 20 minutes. Rinse with cool water. Stovetop method: Using a stainless steel pot, follow the directions for the sink or bucket method above. Heat water to almost boiling (200 degrees F or greater), maintaining the temperature for the duration of use. For detailed instructions, visit ritdye.com/fixative. Spray method: Rit ColorStay dye fixative bottle can be used with a spray trigger. The solution can also be poured into a spray bottle. For best results, apply heat. Please Note: Rit ColorStay dye fixative will greatly improve wash fastness, but will not completely prevent dyed fabric from bleeding. Always wash dyed fabric separately with cold water.
