To Prepare: In medium saucepan, bring 1-1/2 cups water to boil. Add 1 cup rice, 1 tbsp. shortening or oil, and 1/2 tsp. salt. Reduce heat to low and cook for 15 minutes, covering pan after 10 minutes. Let stand, covered, for 5 minutes. Yield: 1 cup uncooked rice makes 3 cups cooked rice. For firmer rice, reduce water by 1/4 cup. To Serve: La Preferida Pearl Rice is commonly used to make Paella. it also makes a tasty and healthy side dish with any meal, and taste great when mixed with chicken (arroz con pollo) or pigeon peas (arroz con gandules). To retain vitamins, do not rinse before or drain after cooking.
